Stonehenge Masonry was founded in 1997 by Richard Smith, the company is run as a small business and most of the work undertaken is provided by word of mouth. Based on on the philosophy of all work is a partnership between Richard Smith and the client, working together to gain the very best possible result, taking all factors into consideration, both artistic and financial.
Although the company has only been founded since 1997, Richard has been practising the art of Stonemasonry ever since leaving school in 1984, when he took up an apprenticeship and college training, he has since gone on to further and hone his skills. During his career to date Richard has stonework spread from near his home in Somerset, to as far afield as Miami Florida.
The company is based in Wellington, Somerset which has proved to be an ideal base for Richard where he lives with his wife Donna and his two children. Somerset which seems to have its' fair share of stately homes and historical buildings, proves to be a continual challenge with regards to the jobs he is asked to undertake.
Most of the work undertaken by the company is to provide the finest hand carved natural stones (to which there are 215 variations available in Great Britain) both to fellow members of the profession and domestic customers alike.
Another side of the company is to clean (using the appropriate methods and cleaning materials) stone features and buildings. Where necessary the features are restored to their original state using a combination of old and new techniques of cutting in, renewing or replacing the unrecoverable features to provide a flawless finish.
All work that is undertaken by Richard Smith is treated with the utmost care and consideration and the finest detail to authenticity, to ensure each task small and large is completed to the highest standard possible.
